The Village Free School is a private, independent, non-profit school in Portland, Oregon. We operate democratically, and provide traditional academics alongside holistic, informal character building for children ages 5 to 18.

Our mission at VFS is to empower tomorrow’s leaders to become independent, creative, and conscientious citizens capable of thinking for themselves and collaborating with others to create a better world.

Our learning environments honor freedom, promote responsibility, and nurture the well-being of each student and the community. Our democratic structure enables the student body to exercise considerable power over their daily life, and allows students, parents, and staff to work together to build the community we want to have.

We are moving!

The Village Free School plans to relocate for the 2013-2014 school year. Our new home will be at 1800 SE Water Avenue, Portland Oregon 97214, and is made possible through a lease agreement with the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
